MEASUREMENTS Guide and Chart

(Please Fill In The Chart Carefully At The Bottom Of Page)

The better your measurements are, the better your fit will be.

* What you will need:

  • A fabric measuring tape, (please do not use a metal construction tape)
  • Assistance from a friend (it will take a matter of minutes to take all your measurements)
  • Well fitting cloths, pair of trousers (not jeans), jacket, and a pair of shoes.
  •

* IMPORTANT! We require the exact garment measurements,  (the exact sizes the garment/s will be cut to) this means you have already allowed a bit of extra room for ease of movement.  A good way of getting these sizes is if you have a similar jacket or trousers that fit you perfectly, lay the jacket / trousers down flat on the floor and using a flexible tape measure carefully measure the sizes as shown below..

If you are unsure of anything please contact us for more advise..

Measurement 1 : Chest

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/chest.jpg
Please wear a shirt
Measure horizontally around the chest roughly at nipple level with your arms down, under the armpits. You should only just be able to feel the tape on your chest. Do not over-inflate your chest but stand normally, you should be able to easily fit your index finger in between the tape and your chest.  Please remember you need to allow for a bit of extra room for movement, a good tip to get this measurements correct is to lay a similar jacket that fits you well flat on the floor and with a flexible tape measure compare the measurement.

Measurement 2: Shoulder Width

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/shoulder.jpg
Please wear a jacket
Measure from the end of your left shoulder seam to the end of your right shoulder seam on a well fitting jacket. This measurement should be equal to the desired width of the jacket's shoulders.

Measurement 3: Sleeve

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/sleeve.jpg
Please wear a jacket
Measure from the jacket seam on the shoulder to where you want the sleeve to end.  Ensure that your arm is bent approximately 90 degrees. The measurement you input will be the measurement of your jacket sleeve. We recommend that the sleeve should go to the base of your thumb (located at the wrist joint).

Measurement 4: Neck

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/neck.jpg
Please wear a shirt
Measure around your neck at the level your shirt collar would sit. You should not feel restricted by the tape for a comfortable fit, and should be able to easily put your index finger inside the tape. Please also allow for a little room for movement and compare this size with similar clothing that fits you well..

Measurement 5: Wrist

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/wrist.jpg

Please wear a shirt
Measure around the widest part of your wrist, place a single finger between the wrist and tape measure. If you wear a watch allow some extra room.

Measurement 6: Bicep

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/bicep.jpg

Please wear a shirt
Measure around the widest part of your bicep with your arm relaxed. (also allow for a little bit of movement)

Measurement 7: Jacket Length

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/length.jpg
Please wear a jacket
Measure vertically down your front from just next to the collar on your jacket, (where the seam is on your shoulder) to where you would like the jacket to end.
If you are unsure of the perfect length it is generally accepted to be where your knuckles are with your arms naturally hanging down. A shorter, more trendy length, looks good when coupled with jeans, but is an acquired taste in a suit. We strongly recommenced using a jacket that alreday fits you well as a guide.

Measurement 8: Jacket Seat / Bottom

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/seat.jpg
Please wear a shirt
Measure horizontally around the largest part ot youir buttocks. (The seat measurement is taken as a circumference measurement around your seat at the widest part

_______________

Measurement 9: Trouser Waist

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/waistline.jpg
Please wear trousers
Measure horizontally around your waist, just inside where you like to wear the top of your trousers. Make sure the tape is snug and does not ride over the waistband but you should be able to put your index finger inside the tape.  Please let us know in the extra notes at the end if you like to wear your trousers above or below your hips. We strongly recommenced using trousers that already fits you well as a guide.

Measurement 10: Outside Leg

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/outleg.jpg
Please wear trousers & shoes
Measure from the top of the waistband on a pair of trousers (not jeans), keeping the measure taut, down to where you wish the bottom of the trousers to end. Please bear in mind the fit you want over the shoe as this will affect the desired length. Stand straight when taking this measurement (We strongly recommenced using trousers that already fits you well as a guide.)

Measurement 11: Inside Leg

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/inside.jpg
Please wear trousers & shoes
Measure from the inside the lowest part of the crotch of your trousers (not jeans), keeping the measure taut, down to where you wish the bottom of the trousers to end. Please bear in mind the fit you want over the shoe as this will affect the desired length.  (We strongly recommenced using trousers that already fits you well as a guide.)

Measurement 12: Crotch

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/crutch1.jpg
Please wear trousers
Measure from the top of the trouser waistband at the front, between your legs, to top of the waistband at the back. Allow as much space as needed for comfort. Please note: allow for high waistbands on historical trousers. (We strongly recommenced using trousers that already fits you well as a guide.)

Measurement 12a: Thigh

https://thejacketshop.co.uk/banners/thigh.jpg
Please wear trousers
Empty your pockets, then measure around the thigh of your trousers (no jeans) at the widest point (usually as high as you can go), you should be able to fit your index finger in behind the tape measure. (should be taken just below the crotch). (We strongly recommenced using trousers that already fits you well as a guide.)
